I painted this bloom on a day when the rain wouldn’t stop, each petal carrying the hush of thunder in its veins. These roses, layered in red watercolor, felt less like flowers and more like lyrics I hadn’t yet found the courage to sing.
I remember string lights buzzing faintly above me, the kind of soft hum that mixes with the smell of wet earth through an open window. My brush danced slowly, almost hesitantly, across thick paper — the texture grabbing pigment in unexpected places, making veins where I hadn’t meant them. Imperfect, but honest.
There’s a rhythm to watercolor journaling that reminds me of songwriting. Sometimes the lines blur, the reds bleed into the greens, and the whole page hums like a verse written too quickly. Yet that’s the beauty of quiet artistry: it doesn’t need to be polished to be real.
Roses have always felt like solo artist inspiration — fragile yet fierce, soft but lined with thorns. They remind me that emotional growth often comes through what we’d rather avoid, through the mess of trying again. In a way, this painting became its own small act of healing through nature, a reminder that even creative burnout recovery begins with something as simple as painting a flower until it breathes.
